What Unity Assets Should I Buy as a Beginner 2D Unity Developer?

**I Will Try To Update as I get more assets and experience**

Ever wondered what unity assets are good to have starting out and what you should wait to purchase? maybe this list can help you out, feel free to ask any questions I will try to answer to the best of my abilities. A way to start 2D game development with zero programming experience. Is to use the unity assets and look for free things there are plenty that can help you prototype and learn the Unity Game Engine and game development. This is for paid and what I consider the top unity assets for 2D game development as a beginner you should not spend any money until you really need an asset that you cannot find for free in the asset store or online there are plenty of other sites that have free assets to help you prototype your ideas. These are a beginner that is learning and all opinions are solely mines alone. My views can change in the future as I get experience and realize some features that really help and some that do not. When I was starting out I could not find any information on platformer pro vs corgi engine and I had no idea what these different types of "Systems" assets were. My initial thought was that everything will be compatible with each other but I have yet to test everything I have purchased to see if it works yet. These are the 4 systems assets that I purchased for the Unity Game Engine and if anyone is wondering what each one has or why you should buy one over the other, I can try and answer your questions to the best of my abilities. The systems assets that I have purchased are called Platformer Pro, Super Platformer Editor, Corgi Engine 2d + 2.5D, and Adventure Creator. When using google I couldn't find any information for these and what they were and I hope this can help explain a little bit to others, but please ask question so I can improve on this page. Each Systems assets has control scripts for basic movements but some Systems assets have features that others do not, some of these Systems assets also can help you create save and load. I have yet to try each asset from top to bottom, but I hope others can also help explain what some of these assets best features are. So lets see what Platformer Pro vs Corgi Engine 2d + 2.5D vs Super Platformer Editor vs Adventure Creator.

This will also list the tools that could help make game development a little easier.

Looking for different places to buy assets for your next game heres a list of 20 assets stores.

Systems Assets:

- Platformer Pro comes with things you need to prototype a basic 2d platformer with grappling and swimming being its biggest feature as other scripts in the engine is for basic control movements that comes with all the other systems in the unity asset store.

- Super Platformer Editor is also another systems asset that is used to help prototype games quickly depending on what games you are thinking of creating this is used if you also want a good collider as it comes with smart collider that they created as well the system allows you to create tilemap type levels check them out to see if they are right for you.

- Corgi Engine 2d + 2.5D is probably the most well known and powerful it doesn't have grappling like platformer pro so if grappling is a must have i suggest using platformer pro as this time corgi engine does not support grappling or swimming.

- Adventure Creator comes with a basic tutorial teaching you the basics and all the useful tools you will need to quickly prototype an adventure game.

Asset Tools:

- Build Report Tool this is a must if you want to keep track of the size of your game when you build it

- Advanced PlayerPrefs Window Asset tool to help you develop games easier.

- Destructible 2D this is soo awesome and must have for any 2d game developer, it allows you to create destructible environments with cool effects.

- Ferr2D Terrain Tool this is a great asset to help you create your game design levels I have yet to test it with all the systems assets to see if its compatible but if you already know how to script most of the basic movements from the systems assets this is probably what you will find the most useful.

- Weather Maker Sky, Weather, Fog, Volumetric Light and Dynamic Environment (2D & 3D) need to add snow? rain? fog? this assets got you covered for 2D, and can even work in 3D if you ever transition towards 3D game development.

- 2D Physics Tool this assets is pretty dope and for what you pay its pretty fun asset to toy around with it.

- Jelly Sprites allows you to turn your sprites into squishy jelly like substance.

Particles and Sound FX:

- Ultimate VFX I got this as a general particles pack so I wouldn't need to worry about creating particle effects as i am just learning this should be good for simple game prototyping

- Magic Arsenal looking for particles for a magic entesive game? this particle pack has got you covered!

- Universal Sound FX same reason i purchased the particle assets i am a solo developer that is using unity to learn and eventually i will create something with original assets but as a beginner learning these are some of the best tools to help progress faster in learning the untiy engine rather learn how to draw sprites animations, create sound fx, and particle fx. If your goal is to learn game and level design you dont need to learn those yet since so many things are at your disposal.

Assets That Others Are Top on Unity Assets Store:

- NGUI Next Gen UI have yet to take advantage of this assets pack yet. but this and DoozyUI is apparently the best GUI asset on the market.

- Love/Hate "is a relationship and personality simulator for Unity. It models characters’ feelings about each other using emotional states and value-based judgment of deeds." ai for your games have yet to use but sounds cool.
